Life Beyond A Diagnosis

Making this the Best Christmas Yet

December 4, 2020 by Nicole Leave a Comment

If you’re anything like most people (especially this year), your tree is already up, and the decorations have been hung. In my house, our tree is up (but bare) and decorations are just now emerging … and since December is here, it’s the perfect time to make this Christmas the best yet.

Although … everything we’ve talked about thus far has been decorations, and this concept isn’t about decorating (although you are welcome to!!) … we are going beyond decorations in this post!

Beyond Decorations:

This year hasn’t been the most … well, promising. It’s been full of ups and downs (especially downs) and lots of frustration. The year we thought would be a game changer turned out to be a Pandora’s box of unpleasant surprises.

In this final month, it’s time to turn our year around and make this Christmas the best yet.

Turning December Around…

Whether you want to try to establish some new traditions, or simply test a few fun activities all month long, what better time than December to create a fresh start? No need to wait for January first!!

  •  Make a special recipe or try seasonal favorites – my family has been making pigs in a blanket on Christmas morning for as long as I can remember. During the month of December, we eat Summer sausage with cheese on crackers at least once, and my mother-in-law always makes sausage balls. There are so many ways to implement this idea!
  • Have a special family present to open on Christmas Eve – this could be a Christmas themed book or movie to read/watch that night, or pajamas to wear, or even an activity – like a cookie recipe to make together, to set out for Santa.
  • Healthy treat baking – Christmas day might look different this year, but it doesn’t have to be any less fun. Consider baking treats as a family, to share or to enjoy all day. While baking, you can sip some decadent sugar free eggnog, or if that’s not your jam, enjoy some coffee made with a delicious gingerbread syrup.

The Best Christmas Yet:

Decorate the tree, hang lights on the house, but don’t forget that it’s never too late to have the best Christmas yet. Regardless of how the year has progressed, we don’t have to wait for January to turn things around.

How are you celebrating Christmas this year? Are you doing anything differently? Let me know in the comments below.
