Life Beyond A Diagnosis

When Even Crackers Sound Nauseating

October 8, 2021 by Nicole Leave a Comment

This is real life: I’m in the first trimester of my second pregnancy, and even the THOUGHT of crackers makes me want to hurl. And you can forget liquids. When even crackers sound nauseating, what’s a (pregnant) girl to do, especially while trying to be on-plan with Trim Healthy Mama?

First, read Morning Sickness and Trim Healthy Mama, an article I wrote in the first trimester of my first pregnancy. Then, come back here for even MORE tips and tricks!

When Crackers Sound Nauseating

It’s hard to even consider food at the moment (I’m literally typing this trying to problem-solve) and when you aren’t feeling well, it seems your brain just goes to mush (at least mine does, anyways!).

I have a box of sweet potato crackers that *normally* I would munch on to curb the nausea, but even the thought right now isn’t appealing. Here’s what I would suggest to the struggling mama:

  • Find some on-plan carbs that are fairly plain that DO sound appealing. I’m currently considering plain air-popped popcorn, or some brown rice and millet ramen noodles I saw online recently.
  • Eat small quantities. It’s tempting to eat until the nausea subsides, but that could make it worse. Just eat a little bit, wait, and then eat some more when ready.
  • As unappealing as liquid might be, try to drink small sips. I’m sipping a sugar-free electrolyte beverage, and trying to do so slowly.

It was mentioned in the linked post, but it’s worth mentioning again, you MIGHT fall off the wagon – this is a challenging time! But don’t let one off-plan meal or snack derail you. One mess up should not define your journey.

What do you do when even crackers sound nauseating? Let me know in the comments below! I read each and every response.
