Life Beyond A Diagnosis

Halloween Minus Spooks and Scares

October 30, 2020 by Nicole Leave a Comment

Halloween is tomorrow, but it doesn’t have to be all about the spooks and scares and treats that you regret eating later, after the initial delight has passed.

As someone who is not keen on horror movies (or even very suspenseful ones!) here’s a few ways to celebrate when scary just isn’t your cup of tea.

Halloween Minus Spooks and Scares

Halloween Minus the Scary Part:

Looking for ideas to celebrate this popular holiday, without giving yourself nightmares or regretting everything you ate later? I got you, boo.

  • Carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns – a Halloween classic, this is one we enjoy every year – and no scares involved!
  • Halloween “classic” movies – these don’t have to be scary. Movies like Halloweentown, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Hocus Pocus, or even The Nightmare Before Christmas (for a bit of a crossover) are fun to watch without the nightmares – and since they are generally for younger audiences, the whole family can enjoy them!
  • Did you carve your pumpkins yet? Save those seeds, because roasted pumpkin seeds are totally delicious and make a great seasonal movie snack!
  • Want something to drink while watching the movie, munching on roasted pumpkin seeds? Try this Strong Mulled Apple Cider on for size! With a bit of advanced planning (this is the kind of drink you simmer all day and tantalize yourself with the smells from the kitchen) the whole family can enjoy this THM E cider.

Staying on Plan:

With a few tweaks here and there, this Halloween (and every one after) can be a Trim Healthy Mama friendly celebration.

There’s no need to pack on the pounds with hordes of chocolate (that lasts long after Halloween is over to tempt you further) – the THM cookbooks and many other Trim Healthy Mama bloggers have chocolate recipes you can make in advance (better get to cooking! Tomorrow is Halloween!) to help you ward of temptation.

Personally, I love skinny chocolate, and it’s a quick, easy recipe to make and chill. However, if you want more of a “candy bar” type of thing, try adding nuts or even sugar free butterscotch chips to your skinny chocolate – I bet it would be delicious! For an even quicker, easier fix, order or buy some Lily’s chocolate bars – they have a few different seasonal flavors right now, and you can stay on plan while savoring them.

This CAN be a healthy, scare-free, on plan Halloween. Good luck!
